POSITION: Conference Logistics Assistant Internship – Nobel Women’s Initiative
Approximately March 1 – June 7, 2013
The Nobel Women’s Initiative uses the prestige of the Nobel Peace Prize and six courageous women peace laureates to magnify the power and visibility of women working in countries around the world for peace, justice and equality. The Nobel Women’s Initiative is based in Ottawa, Ontario.
Every two years, the Nobel Women’s Initiative hosts a conference, bringing together women from around the world to work together on a pertinent topic. The 2013 conference, Moving Beyond Militarism to a Nonviolent World, will be hosted in Belfast from May 28-30. The intern will work closely with the Coordinator of Events & Operations, and will be responsible for supporting a wide variety of logistical tasks related to the conference.
This internship offers a stipend of $1,500 per month, for a total of $4,500.
The intern will undertake the following responsibilities:
Logistical support of the Nobel Women’s Initiative Biennial Conference:
Creating and sending conference invitations
Communicating with conference participants for registration
Booking all flights for sponsored participants, in coordination with the Nobel Women’s Initiative travel agent
Creating visa application packages and supporting the visa applications of participants
Maintaining the conference database
Helping to maintain and update the conference budget
Helping to communicate and coordinate with suppliers
Other logistical support as required
The successful intern may be asked to join the Nobel Women’s Initiative staff team on-site in Belfast, from May 26-31, 2013
Support the general operations and administration of the Organization through:
Administrative support for effective functioning of the Nobel Women’s Initiative office (filing, faxing, mail-outs, etc)
Administrative and logistical support for other Nobel Women’s Initiative projects, meetings and events
Activist experience and a strong desire to work for a more peaceful, just world
Experience working in event coordination
Excellent English written and oral communication skills
Strong computer skills, with experience working with databases an asset
The ability to take initiative on projects and work independently
The ability to be creative, flexible and adaptable
French, Spanish or Arabic an asset
The ability to travel internationally and scheduling flexibility in order to attend the Belfast conference in the last week of May, 2013

Nobel Women’s Initiative was established by sister Nobel Peace Laureates Jody Williams, Shirin Ebadi, Wangari Maathai, Rigoberta Menchu Tum, Betty Williams and Mairead Maguire. (Only 15 women in more than 110 year history have been recognized with the nobel Peace Prize) The six women decided to bring together their extraordinary experience in a united effort for peace with justice and equality in North/Sout America, Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
